Weston
Observatory produced comprehensive catalogues of historical earthquakes in the northeast USA
& 'adjacent areas'. All quakes with a mag =>5.0 were
considered and, if no magnitude was given, then an
intensity of =>7.0 was taken as being valid (see Table A
this appendix). For a number of early events, no intensity
or magnitude were noted and these were ignored as they were
impossible to assess.
Of the total 55 earthquakes listed
for the period 1630-2005, 20 appeared in the 5.5 months beginning
September 24 of those years in the 9/56 year grid shown in
Table B this appendix. The likelihood of this happening by
chance was extremely significant p < .10-6.
The three
sets of quake data for New
York State fall preferentially in similar 9/56 year
patterns, as found in Table B this appendix.
