Weston
Observatory produced comprehensive catalogues of historical earthquakes in the northeast USA
& 'adjacent areas'. All quakes with a mag =>5.0 were
considered and, if no magnitude was given, then an
intensity of =>7.0 was taken as being valid. For a number of early events, no intensity
or magnitude were noted and these were not included as they were
impossible to assess.
Of the total 55 earthquakes listed
for the period 1630-2005, 22 happened in the 9/56 year grid
as shown in Table A (marginally significant p < .05).
Remarkably, 19 fell in the 5 months beginning
September 15 of those years in the 9/56 year grid shown in
Table A. However, about 70% of all earthquakes in
the north east occurred in this 5 month period.
For 1870 -
2005, there were some 34 events listed, of which 16 appeared
in Table A (significant p < .01).
