9/56 YEAR CYCLE: MARYLAND EARTHQUAKES- 1870-2005

Appendix for the paper 9/56 year Cycle: Earthquakes & Volcanoes.

The Maryland Geological Survey listed some 33 Maryland earthquakes that have occurred between 1870 and 2002 (mag =>2.0). Of this figure, an amazing 22 occurred in the 12 months ended November 30 of those years in Table A (highly significant: p < 10^-6). However, 5 events happened in 1993 only, so there may be a distortion to any data containing this year. Thus an appraisal was also made of the interval 1875-1990, a period with a total of 23 earthquakes. Some 16 events took place in the 12 months ended November 30 of those years in Table A, a finding that was still highly significant (p < 10^-6).
