MAJOR ITALIAN EARTHQUAKES: 1650 - 2009

Appendix for the paper 9/56 year Cycles: Earthquakes & Volcanoes.

The United States Geological Survey presented a listing of major Italian seismic events since the mid 17th century. Quakes of magnitude => 5.9 gave a listing of 17 quakes (see Table A), of which 10 occurred in the 8.6 months ended April 6 of those years in Table B. The expected frequency was only 2.6.

Of the total 17 quakes, 13 occurred in the 9 months ending May 15 of those years in Table C (significant p < .001). These earthquakes have been denoted by # in Table A.

Various record quakes in California - Nevada - Baja California were experienced in the 9/56 year grid as presented in Table D. The two biggest Italian quakes also happened in this pattern - September 8, 1905 (mag 7.9) and January 13, 1915 (mag 7.5).

The most recent earthquake in Abruzzo (Apr 6, 2009) occurred in the 9/56 year cycle as shown in Tables B & C.
